The Movement for Global Mental Health hosted the first Global Mental Health Summit on September 2nd, 2009 in Athens. This Summit aimed to bring together members of the Movement to share experiences and plan for the future. The Summit was hosted as a separate event just before the Biennial Congress of the World Federation for Mental Health (see http://www.wmhc2009.com/ static/ index.html ). |

The GMH Summit was supported by the Lancet, The Wellcome Trust, the Global Initiative on Psychiatry and the MacArthur Foundation. |
Members were invited to propose topics and speakers (including themselves) and format meant that there were keynote speakers for each session and several short presentations. There was active involvement of all stakeholder groups, in particular users from low-resource settings |
Thanks to the Wellcome Trust, we were able to support the travel of members from low and middle income countries. Sadly, some of our travel fellows could not get visas in time, but several did participate in the summit |
